Sebastian “Dusty” Rogers is the owner and founder of Dusty Rogers Baseball/Softball Academy.
Dusty, a former first-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds and long-time youth sports coach in the Dubuque area. In 2017, Dusty opened Dusty Rogers Baseball/Softball Academy, with a goal of providing professional level baseball and softball instruction to the region.
A left-handed pitcher, Dusty was the sixth overall pick of the 1984 January Major League Baseball draft. A farmhand for the Reds organization for five years before injuries shortened his career, Dusty was 6-2 in his initial professional season, playing for the Billings Mustangs and a 3.88 ERA. He returned to Billings the following season, where he posted a 6-4 record and improving his ERA to 3.11 with 95 strikeouts. That year, Baseball America named Dusty the league’s 10th-ranked prospect.
Moving up to the Tampa Tarpons in 1986, Dusty went was 4-6 with a 3.89 ERA, while he posted a 3-7 record and a 4.19 ERA for the Cedar Rapids Reds in 1987. In 1988, he finished his professional career with the Greensboro Hornets, going 7-6, with a 2.57 ERA.
Overall, Dusty posted a 26-25 record during his professional career, with a 3.51 ERA in 90 games. He recorded 449 strikeouts in 456 1/3 innings.
David Janes is DRBA’s Director of Baseball Operations, as well as a Coach and Instructor.
A four-year varsity baseball at Dubuque Senior High School, David continued his playing career at the collegiate level at Ellsworth Community College and Wayne State College. He is currently the Assistant Varsity Coach at Wahlert Catholic High School in Dubuque.
As Director of Baseball Operations, David oversees DRBA’s overall baseball operations and player development. As an instructor, David specializes in hitting and catching.
Dave Samson serves as the General Manager and Coach for DRBA. In his general manager role, Dave oversees the day-to-day operations and event planning for DRBA.
A former college coach, Dave has over 20 years of experience coaching youth baseball and basketball. He is currently the coach of DRBA’s 14u and 15u teams.
Randall Rhomberg serves as the Director of Softball for DRBA.
With 15 years of experience coaching, Randall has experience coaching at all levels of softball, having coached teams from ages 8-18. In 2016, Randall founded the Dubuque Aftershock, a growing softball program with teams ranging from 10u-14u.
As the Director of Softball, Randall oversees the day-to-day operations for DRBA’s softball program, including planning for DRBA travel teams and softball events. He also is the program’s 12u coach.
